JESSE ALLEN HOLMES FAMILY

Jesse Allen Holmes (3/25/1887 - 8/13/1960) was the son of Joseph Hiram "Jodie" & Martha Elizabeth Wood Holmes. He married Lessie Ivey (8/31/1890 - 3/11/1916), daughter of David Henry & Mary Tart Ivey. They had 2 children together before Lessie died of tuberculosis. She was buried at Hannah's Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Next, Jesse married Marry E. Godwin Holland (1/6/1892 - 9/13/1920), daughter of Jefferson Monroe & Lucy Wood Godwin and widow of W. T. Holland. Jesse and Marry had a son, Joseph Monroe Homes, on 4/28/1920. Marry died on 9/13/1920 due to complications from childbirth. Joseph Monroe Holmes died on 4/25/1921. The cause of death was listed as ileo colitis. It is unknown where Marry & Joseph are buried.

Jesse's third wife was Rose Ella Lucas (5/1889 - 2/24/1933), daughter of Thomas Lucian & Rebecca Jane Wiggins Lucas. Rose was buried at Colliers Church Cemetery, Linden, Cumberland County, North Carolina near her parents.

Jesse's last wife was Evada Anders (11/3/1893 - 1/9/1964), daughter of Bryant & Mary J. Parsons Anders. Jesse & Evada married in 1934 and were together until Jesse's death in 1960. They are buried side by side in the Coats City Cemetery in Harnett County, North Carolina.

JOHN ALLEN HOLMES FAMILY

John Allen Holmes (6/5/1911 - 3/26/1988) was the son of Jesse Allen & Lessie Ivey Holmes. He married Leddie Etta Byrd (3/17/1916 - 6/28/1990), daughter of Ben Eli & Rosa Stevens Byrd, on 9/25/1932, in Dillon, South Carolina. They raised 5 sons together. Leddie & John are both buried in Devotional Gardens Cemetery in Dunn, North Carolina.

JOSEPH HIRAM "JODIE" HOLMES FAMILY

Joseph Hiram "Jodie" Holmes (07/29/1856 - 02/09/1934) was the son of Hiram & Susan Caroline Thornton Holmes. He married Martha Ann Temple (born about 1858) on 12/26/1876. She was the daughter of Burwell W. & Martha R. Blackman Temple. Together they had one child, Lessy E. Holmes, born about 1879. While the fate of Martha Ann Temple Holmes is unknown, it is thought that she probably died either in childbirth or shortly thereafter.

Jodie went on to marry again on 02/09/1882 to Martha Elizabeth Wood (03/22/1865 - 05/04/1943) daughter of William & Avery Ann Parker Wood. Together they had ten children. Jodie & Martha Elizabeth Wood Holmes are buried together at Hannah's Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Johnston County, North Carolina.
