Southward Bound

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

I’ll be heading to Harnett County this weekend to spend a little time with The Great Prophetess Helen and also to attend the first Open House of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church on Saturday. I am way excited to see the progress they have made on the building and to also see all the things they are going to have available there for auction as well.

It is supposed to be a beautiful weekend so I am hoping to get lots of photos to share with all of you. In fact, I intend to dedicate a page to the church on WeMightBeKin. You’ll have to keep an eye out for it!

If you get out that way, look me up and say “Hey”!

As the Gavel Slams

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

gavel-slamI have been doing some serious gavel slammin’ on the family tree trying to get all these folks un-divorced and un-remarried.

Here’s how we stand so far:

All “E” Surnames
All “I” Surnames
All “K” Surnames
All “Y” Surnames

There are also some side family lines with small numbers that I have taken care of but they are too many to list. I’ll keep you all updated on the progress. Don’t get too close…you just might get nailed!! :D

A Little of the Drama

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

For some odd and heretofore still unknown reason, when Family Tree Maker exploded, it also decided to grab an inordinate (read that as a great whole bunch) of married folks

and divorce them all in 1987.

Then it decided to remarry them all on April 17th, 1992.

Seriously. I’m not kidding. It didn’t even matter if they had already been dead for 150 years. They got divorced in 1987 and remarried on April 17, 1992.

Sooooo, guess what I’ve been doing ever since I discovered the wonder of the fantastic, all encompassing, impressive beyond belief Roots Magic…Yep!! I have pretty much become a “one stop has it all” Justice of the Peace!

Anybody seen my sanity lately???

After so much fruitless effort with FTM and my blood pressure reaching stroke status, my research pointed me towards the preferred program among genealogists today…wait for it…Ladies & Gentlemen, fellow Bone Collectors, I give you the power of Roots Magic!

This fabulous piece of awesomeness did it! It not only imports files directly from FTM but it opened this heretofore damaged and unusable supposedly lost forever file! I shall sing its graces until the end of time.

Due to whatever chaos erupted in the FTM file, there are some inconsistencies I now have to clean up before I will be ready to repost anything but, rest assured, everyone is present and accounted for…thank God.

I finally was able to get some sleep last night. Thanks to Mark and Lee for your suggestions and offers of help and to Jill for your constant support.

Serious, Serious Doo Doo

Monday, February 9th, 2009

WeMightBeKin is in massive meltdown and I am on the verge of a stroke! My Family Tree Maker program crashed, crumbled, obliterated itself, I don’t know what it did but whatever it was it decided to take the WeMightBeKin database with it…all 48MB’s of it.

I. Kid. You. Not.

I have been in contact with FTM gurus trying to rescue our precious research and pulling out every trick in the book that I know of but nothing has worked yet. Please keep your fingers crossed and say about 452 prayers. I’m scared.

Oh Now, Looky Here…

Look what we got for Christmas!

Addison Grace Elizabeth Marable was born at 9:15 am on Christmas Eve to The Kid and Baby Boy thus officially making me Aunt Deb The Great! How cool is that?

This is a shot of Mother & Daughter. The hand on Addison’s head is my Mama’s.

This one is Addison with her Grandmother (my sister Brenda). She’s Brenda’s first grandchild.

And now with her Great Grandmama (my Mother). Mama’s first great grandchild too.

Plus one of all three of them. Steph wasn’t allowing any shots of her just yet. Can’t blame her there. Keep an eye out here for more to come of our little addition!

Let’s Talk About It

The Message Board at WeMightBeKin is back up and running and, hopefully, this new and improved version will keep the spammers at bay. We are going to try anyway. Check it out. You do have to register, free of course, but then it’s off to the races!

Click the pencil dude to go the Message Board and see for yourself.

How Awesome!

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Last month we had our annual Parrish Family Reunion in Coats, North Carolina. As usual, we had a really great turnout and it was so wonderful to all be together once again. A really special moment was this picture…

This is my Great Aunt, Rebeth Ara Parrish Mitchell, holding her Great, Great Nephew, Dallin Porter Mason. They were the oldest and youngest at the reunion. Dallin was just eleven days new to this Earth while Aunt Re was eleven days shy of her 96th birthday. How cool is that?

Just after I took this picture, Aunt Re came over to me, put her arm around me and said, “When he gets bigger, you be sure and tell him about me.” I promised her I would.
