Casey Bird

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

There is a great sadness in my heart. My sweet Cockatiel, Casey Bird, passed away today at the age of 23. I found him this afternoon.  He lived a long, happy life and he will be sorely missed.

My neighbors, Ray & Judith, came over and took him to their house to bury him in the bird cemetery in their backyard. They have now and have had many birds over the years. Nice people. Fine neighbors. They loved Casey. He loved them.

Casey Bird’s cage sits covered in its usual spot. I tear up each time I walk past it. I’ll miss him. Fly free my sweet boy. Fly free.

Major Server Problems

Friday, August 17th, 2007

If you’ve had problems getting to “The Bone” lately, you are not alone. The server that hosts this site as well as wemightbekin and my e-mail has apparently been on life support for the past day or so. Trying to connect to any of it has been an exercise in futility to say the least.

Hopefully, the problems are well on their way to being resolved and we will all be back up and fully functional again very soon. Hang in there with us please. By the way, DreamHost is the affected server so, if you are having problems with any other sites, they may be tied into them as well.

See Ya’

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

I’m headed south to Harnett County for a few days. The Parrish Family Reunion is this evening and I’ll be staying on a few days after. I won’t be in a technology free zone but I will be staying with the Great Prophetess Helen so I don’t know if I will be able to steal away long enough to drop you guys a line.

Take it easy and take care of each other. I’ll be back home Wednesday afternoon. :D

Pops is home and doing just fine. Of course he is in much more pain than he believed he would be…being Mr. Indestructible and all…but he is doing well. Again, many thanks to you all.

Pops Again

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Well, Pops didn’t do so good with the food or the walking around bit. Nope. Got pretty nauseous. So, he’s not going home tonight. The surgeon came back by and said everything is still fine and Pops is just reacting to the anesthesia…it’s normal. They’ll give him something for the nausea, watch him overnight, and try to send him on his way again tomorrow.

Pops is fine with that plan at this point and just wants to go to sleep. I’ll keep you posted. :D

Surgery went great! They were able to do it Laparoscopic, so we are very pleased with that. He was still pretty doped up but he came out of recovery telling everybody “It’s a boy”. My sister even blew up a rubber glove and wrote “It’s a Boy” on it and hung it from his IV pole. We are a strange family.

The surgeon said that things are looking so good that, as long as Pops is able to keep some food down and get up and walk some, he can go home this evening. Wow! Pretty amazing, huh?

We did want to clear some things up so we asked the Doc point blank and right in front of Pops…

1. Is it alright for him to cut his grass Thursday? (Yes, folks. Pops was adamant that he was going to cut his grass Thursday).

Answer: No

2. When can he drive? (Pops was adamant that he would be driving to Carolina this coming Friday…the Parrish Reunion is Saturday).

Answer: Not for at least a week…maybe longer (Mama’s driving).

3. When can he play golf? (Pops was holding his breath for this one).

Answer: Not for at least 3 to 4 weeks. (Pops was crestfallen…awwww)

Poor little fella. One day he will have to learn that even he has limits. Yeah, right.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. We are all so very grateful.

Surgery Eve

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

Pops is set for surgery tomorrow (Monday) morning. At approximately 11:00, he will graciously, and without hesitation, donate his gall bladder to the Academy of Diseased and Useless Organs. What a guy! He has even taken it a step further and asked the surgeon to go ahead and perform a hysterectomy while he’s in there…I kid you not… :D Perhaps the surgeon is the one who needs our prayers!

Please do remember Pops, the surgeon, Mama, and all of us tomorrow. I’ll let you know how things go. Truly, Pops is quite excited to finally be getting this taken care of as he believes it will go a long way toward setting him back on the road to recovery. We all sure do hope so.

Pops has a Diagnosis

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

His personal Doc says the culprit is Proximal Neuropathy…a complication of diabetes. Even so, he does not present as a typical patient (imagine that). Given his history and the excellent manner of care he affords himself both physically, and nutritionally, this should not have reared its ugly head…but it did. So, now we deal with it.

There is no cure for the nerve damage caused by this ugliness but the symptoms can be managed and, in some cases, alleviated altogether. That’s what we are shooting for…the “alleviated altogether” part.

So, we will play with medications and combinations of medications until we find what works best for him and we will pray and ask that you continue to pray for we all know and understand that God is bigger and mightier than all of this…and we all know and understand that God loves Pops and that He has plans for Pops…plans for good and not evil, plans to prosper him and not harm him, to give him hope and a future. We all know and understand this, and we all will continue to pray Pops well.
