Pops has a Date!

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Pops finally has a date with the surgeon! He will be happily giving up his gall bladder on August 6th at 11:00 in the morning. I’ll tell you what, he was one happy camper to finally get a date set.

He should only be in the hospital overnight and, for those of you wondering, he fully intends to be in Coats on the 11th (my birthday) for the Parrish Family Reunion. He truly enjoys that reunion and he says he absolutely wouldn’t miss it!

As for me, I’m still struggling with this bronchitis but I’m plugging along. My voice decided not to plug along with me though, so I had to postpone the class I was supposed to teach at the Academy tomorrow. It’s kind of difficult to teach an eight hour block with only about 10 minutes worth of voice. Oh well, it’s set up for next week now.

I’m off to bed. I hope you all sleep great and have wonderful days tomorrow!

Some Stuff

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

I uploaded elevendy million obituaries to wemightbekin today. Check it out in the New Stuff.

Still no word from Pop’s surgeon on a date for the operation. The baby grandson, Jonathan, came and cut the grass today. So what if he’s 15, got a goatee, and quickly heading toward 6 feet tall, he’s still the baby grandson…and a good boy too!

As for me, I am feeling better every day. I went ahead and stayed home today so I could be sure to kick this stuff on out of me. I have to teach all day at the Academy on Friday so I have to get better than I am. I’ve been sleeping so much I almost feel like a zombie! Must be that I need it.

Thanks for all the well wishes. You folks are the best.

Pops

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

Pops saw the surgeon yesterday and all systems are go to remove the gall bladder. We should find out next week when the date for surgery will be. Pops says the sooner the better.

No news yet on the tests for the pain in his legs and hips. He has a follow up appointment with his personal doc soon so we should know something then.

As for me, I’m down with bronchitis. Yippee yahoo. Such fun. :(

Pops Update

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

Pops says “Hi”

I took this photo with my camera phone at the annual fish fry at his church today. No way was he missing that, even though he had a bad night and today has been a worse day than yesterday. His legs just don’t seem to be improving at all yet. As a matter of fact, he’s even called his personal physician and moved his appointment up to Monday afternoon. Something has to give. The Vicodin is helping to take the edge off but, when it gets to its worst point, even that isn’t enough.

We have learned that his cholesterol medication is not a statin but the side effects of it can still be just as devastating. I almost think the cholesterol is the lesser of the two evils. By the way, his medication is/was Tricor. He did stop it. In our research, we have learned that it can sometimes take up to two years before the side effects manifest themselves and such was the case with Pops. Can you say “scary stuff”?

Remember, he also has the two tests the surgeon ordered scheduled for Monday as well. I’ll keep you posted on all of it. By the way, his PSA results were 1.8, which is very good, so no worries there.

Please keep him in your prayers don’t only for his his physical health but for his emotional health as well. Pops is used to going and doing all the time and now he spends the majority of his time lying down just to try to ease the pain. That would take a toll on anybody who is used to be as physically as he is.

More later… :D

Okay…And?

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Well, Pops saw the surgeon and I don’t get it. The surgeon still believes the gall bladder needs to come out but he wants to run a couple of more tests first. Um, why? They will be run next Monday and he will see the surgeon again on the following Friday.

As for his legs, the surgeon says Pops may be right in his theory about the statins but he doesn’t know since, of course, this is not his area of expertise. Oh, and guess what? Apparently, there is no femoral hernia. I know, I know…I’m stumped too.

Now, I know I only got my MD from the Discovery Health Channel, but methinks there is still something very wrong with Pops’ legs and I am not so sure it has anything to do with statins. You see, when Cousin Barbara and I came off statins, the pain in our legs cleared up almost immediately. Such has not been the case with Pops. Good Lord, he had to put on his socks in stages this morning…that is not a good thing! He thinks his leg pain is taking longer to clear up because he has been on the statins much longer than we were. I don’t know…maybe there is some merit to that thinking. I just don’t want him to hurt anymore. His pain is pretty much constant and enough is enough already.

He is scheduled to see his personal physician but not until the end of the month and he doesn’t want to go any sooner and deal with the legs issue because he wants to get the gall bladder taken care of first. Can we say “stubborn”?

So, that’s where we are as of today. Are you scratching your head? I know I am.

Pops Report

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Pops claims he might have felt a bit better today. Mama is not so sure he felt as much better as he claimed. I think he actually felt better because of the “heart massage” he got today. Allow me to explain…

All three grandsons swooped in and took care of the yard work today. Yep, Pops likes his yard to look nice. He climbed up on his lawn mower last week, after just being out of the hospital a few days, and cut the grass. Needless to say, happiness was not the prevailing sentiment.

Not this time. The Boys to the rescue! They did let him play “Overseer” but that was about the extent of it. He was fine with that role as well given the pain he has been in with his legs. The Boys did a great job and Pops was so pleased with them and his yard. I’m so proud of you guys for taking care of your Grandpa!

Pops sees the surgeon at 11:00 tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. I’ll update you all as soon as I know anything. Let’s pray him well!!

Well, I’ll Be

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

I had a real nice conversation tonight with a new found cousin, Say-rah (aka Sarah) from Oklahoma, who just so happens to be related to me in about 52 different ways. What a delight! We certainly share the gift of gab if nothing else. Oh, and by the way, she loves Cemetery Hoppin’ about as much as I do! Yep, we’ve decided we “am” kin… :D

As soon as I am able to get a few things fleshed out that she has sent my way (lots of Beasley and Tart info), I hope to update the Family Reports. That hasn’t been done in quite a while so you folks should find loads of new info once that happens.

I was also contacted by descendants of Kitty Langdon Williams (03/02/1889 – 03/14/1964), daughter of Willis Carroll and Delia Thompson Langdon. Thanks to their willingness to share info, we are going to be able to flesh out that family as well. Good things happening all around.

Pops has had a rough couple of days with pain in his legs. We are beginning to think that perhaps his chloresterol medicine is affecting his legs. His cousin, Barbara, found out a while back that she cannot take statins due to severe pain it causes in her legs and I had the very same problem. Our doctors finally had to move us to meds that do not contain statins. Pops has been suffering with the pain in his legs for quite some time now and we were attributing it to the hernia. Now with it happening in both legs and being so bad, we are wondering about the idea of the statins. To be on the safe side, he has stopped his medication until he sees the surgeon on Tuesday. Please continue to pray and I’ll keep you posted.

Have a great day tomorrow and find lots of reasons to smile!

Hi Ya’

Friday, June 29th, 2007

Wow, has my world been a busy place lately! Inspector Gadget has been in training all week and the requests coming through the office door have seemed to be non-stop. I’ve been so bushed by the time I get home every night that I just collapse on the couch, watch my soapies, play Jeopardy on the phone with Mama, and go to bed. I’m over it I tell you. I want my “cushy, do nothing but play all day” job back.

Pops is hanging in there. The Prostate Specialist Dude said he thinks the Prostate being enlarged is simply due to age. I must admit that I enjoyed hearing that. “Due to age.” Yep. Liked it. They still sent blood work just to be on the safe side. The results should be back by Monday. Pops should meet with the Surgeon on Tuesday and they will hopefully set a date for surgery then. I’ll keep you posted.

I had a grit fit this morning so we ordered in breakfast. I am now culinarily satisfied. I’m not sure that is even a word but it should be so I declare that it now is. Say it with me now…”culinarily”. Very good. Sort of just rolls off the tongue doesn’t it?

Have a wonderful day. I’m going to try to hide from all things work related. See ya’.
