Need Prayers

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Just after 4:00 this afternoon, massive tornadoes touched down in Suffolk, VA…a mere 15 to 20 miles from my home. The aftermath was devastating. At least one person has been confirmed dead {UPDATE: We have now been told that no one was killed…HALLELUJAH!!} and more than 200 injured. These are some preliminary photos…we have never seen the likes of this in this area before…

Thank God we are safe and it could have been so very much worse, to be sure. Please remember all of these folks in your thoughts and prayers. They are going to need it for a long time to come.

Parents of the Year

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

John and Laurie Sittley of Chesterfield, South Carolina

So says The Bone. Why? Because they had the guts to turn their kid in for buying bomb making material and planning to blow up his school and everyone in it…including himself…no great loss there. The kid’s name? Doesn’t matter. He wanted to be famous for it. The Bone isn’t gonna help him.

John and Laurie Sittley however deserve accolades upon accolades, a ticker tape parade, a gajillion million dollar award, at the very least. I mean it. If they hadn’t discovered the plot and turned him in…if he had gone through with his despicable plan, everyone everywhere would be asking the same question…

“Where were his parents?”

So let me ask this question now. Where are all those people now? Huh? Why aren’t they fawning all over the Sittleys right this minute, telling them how awesome they are and what a wonderful and amazing thing they did? I mean if things had gone the other way you can bet they would be all over them wanting to know why they didn’t know their kid was so messed up. Look at the aftermath of Columbine and Virginia Tech.

Hey Sittleys…The Bone noticed. You guys are so courageous and I, for one, bow to your greatness. What you did had to be about the hardest thing you have ever had to do but your decision very probably saved a great many lives…including your son’s. I applaud you.

May God bless you both and bring you peace.

Hail to the Chief

Monday, March 31st, 2008

My current boss and very good friend has been appointed the next Chief of Police for the Chesapeake Police Department. He will replace our retiring Chief who leaves us effective tomorrow after 42 years of service to the Department.

I cannot be happier for Chief Wright…I’ll have to get used to calling him that now…and this Department could not have asked for a better leader. He is a man of Faith, Integrity, Goodness, Honor, and Truth. Who better to lead us as we “fight the good fight”? I have been blessed to call him friend for more than 20 years and I am now honored and privileged to call him Chief.

Congratulations Chief Kelvin L. Wright. Well done, Sir. Well done.

Once again, my badge is draped in black.
Once again, a member of my family has fallen.
Once again, I am reminded of how much this world continues to change…maybe not for the better.
Once again, The Bone will be silent.

With Respect, Honor, and Gratitude

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

It is with a saddened and heavy, heavy heart that The Bone notifies you all today that one of the six American casualties of the booby trapped house in Diyala, Iraq was Army Staff Sergeant Jonathan Kilian Dozier, the brother of my good friend and fellow officer, Jennifer Dozier Rider.

As you can imagine, the news has been devastating for Jen and her family and friends. Our local newspaper did a story on the Dozier family this past Veteran’s Day to honor their military service, which expands from the time of the Civil War. An area artist contributed the drawing you see below (Jon is the soldier in front). To read the story, click on the drawing.
