Big Jack Attack

Monday, January 15th, 2007

I have discovered Jack Bauer and Fox TV’s 24 and now I understand what all the hoopla has been about. Wow! What a good show! I was absolutely glued to the TV last night for the first half of the 4 hour premiere and I am way psyched about the second half of the premiere tonight!

Okay people. Jack rocks!!

More Family Update

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Aunt Sue came home from the hospital yesterday. They said there was nothing more they could do for her medically. She is very weak but glad to be home. She now has to make the decision of whether or not to quit chemo. She will see the doctor later this week to discuss that option.

Terry is feeling better this morning than he was yesterday. He is scheduled for another echocardiogram today to determine if he needs a quadruple rather than triple bypass and whether or not he needs work done on his mitral valve. At this time surgery is scheduled for tomorrow (the hospital was over-booked for surgery today).

Mama and Pops are on the way home.

More later.

Family Update

Friday, January 12th, 2007

My cousin Terry is currently in recovery. His wife, Tracy, just got off the phone with Mama. He is scheduled for triple bypass surgery Monday morning. He has one artery completely blocked and two more almost completely blocked. The doctor was surprised that Terry has not already had a fatal heart attack but said that he should feel twenty years younger after the surgery.

Aunt Sue has had a good day today and seems mentally alert. They still have no idea why she went off the deep end last night but are monitoring her closely.

Mama and Pops are leaving for Carolina in the morning. By the way…Happy Birthday Mama!!

Family

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Aunt Sue has taken a turn for the worse tonight and has once again lost her mental lucidity. She is hallucinating and believes she is somewhere other than where she is and that she has to go home. The family has been by her side however there are now new worries.

Aunt Sue’s oldest son, Terry, has been admitted to the same hospital and is in congestive heart failure. Doctors removed 17 pounds (yes, that is 17) of fluid from around his heart today. He is scheduled to be moved tomorrow to Wake Med and will undergo Angioplasty. The doctors wanted him at Wake Med in case anything else needs to be done since Raleigh Community is not equipped to handle his situation.

Mama talked to Terry by telephone this evening. He says he is okay but obviously his mother is topmost in his thoughts right now. Mama and Pops are heading home Saturday morning. Knowing my Mama, she will not rest easy until she has laid eyes on both Aunt Sue and Terry.

Please continue to pray for this family…my family.

Sir I.T. Guy

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

I had a most unpleasant encounter with I.T. Guy yesterday at work. As a matter of fact, when our most unpleasant encounter was finished, I do believe I uttered the word “JERK” a little more audibly than under my breath as I walked away. Angered me, he did. (Sorry Aunt Joyce. I know I did wrong.)

This morning, I saw I.T. Guy pulling into the parking lot as I got to work. Yes, I was reminded of the most unpleasant encounter…ugh…great way to start the day. I walked up to the front of the building and I.T. Guy, at a half trot, called for me to wait. I stopped…ugh.

I.T. Guy walked up to me and APOLOGIZED for the way he treated me yesterday! Wow! Blown away does not even begin to cover my feelings at that point. I.T. Guy gained about 37 sticky stars for courage at that very moment. I promptly accepted his apology and remarked that it takes a big man to do what he just did.

I now officially dub I.T. Guy…Sir I.T. Guy.

Great way to start the day.

Improvement

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

My Aunt Sue is showing some signs of improvement. My Uncle Curtis went to see her in the hospital in Raleigh last night and was pleasantly surprised by her mental acuity. She is still very ill and has quite a way to go but there is improvement and it is good to have her somewhat back to her senses.

Shaken, Rattled, but Holding On

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

My family has been rocked pretty hard this week…first with the death of a cousin and then with the hospitalization of my Aunt Sue following complications from chemotherapy. Aunt Sue is deep into her second battle with cancer. The first was breast cancer and now it’s liver cancer. Over the last few years, the chemo and cancer have taken such a toll on her body that she is almost unrecognizable and the pain is nearly constant.

This last treatment has left her severely dehydrated and mentally out of it. The situation is bad but the nurse is telling us we do not need to head that way just yet. My Aunt Sue has always been such a blessing and such a bright spot in our family and it hurts to see her like this. She is truly suffering.

Sometimes, in situations like this one, it is hard to know just how to pray. I have about come to the conclusion that sometimes the most loving thing anyone can do for someone like Aunt Sue is to pray that she passes on…that the pain is forever stopped and peace replaces every sorrow. I love my Aunt Sue more than words can say and I pray we say “Farewell” very soon. It’s time for her to go home.

Play “with” Words

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

I was running around on a blog I just discovered, Open Book, when I ran across a link to a site called The Visual Dictionary. How cool! I could spend many, many hours just browsing around here and bouncing around ideas for pictures of my own.

Oh, and do check out Open Book. Most enjoyable.

Happy Day

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

Church was fabulous today even though the turnout was a bit sparse. I thoroughly enjoyed the sermon (kudos to Pastor Parker) and the feeling of friendship in the air. After church, SilverBlue took me to lunch to discuss his book. I now have the finished working copy and it is time for the final edit. Great job my friend!
