Bone Collectin’ update today…

Added a pile of Death Certificates, thanks in big big part to Say-rah for her Beasley donations. You can find them all easily in the New Stuff.

By the way Say-rah, I ran into an Isaac Beasley (b. abt 1790) married Phereby Roberts in Johnston County 7-7-1829. Do you know anything about him?

Nita – I got your Langdon package in the mail and I am working my way through it. I’ll get back with you as soon as I can. Thanks so much for sharing.

I’ve been working diligently with Jimmy on uncovering an elusive Holmes line and it is about to give both of us a fit. We may need a prayer or two from the rest of you! By the way, he sent me a wonderful picture of his Great Grandmother, Mary Margaret “Ciss” Whittington Holmes Byrd. I hope to share it with you all soon.

Bobbie in Florida contacted me for help tracking down her Mother’s line of Stancils from the Harnett County area. With a couple of names and round about dates, we were finally successful and she is off and running! As it turned out, her Stancils, hooked in to my Norris line so it’s all good.

Still trudging along with St. Mary’s Grove Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. It’ll get there eventually…maybe…I hope.

Pops Update

Pops says “Hi”

I took this photo with my camera phone at the annual fish fry at his church today. No way was he missing that, even though he had a bad night and today has been a worse day than yesterday. His legs just don’t seem to be improving at all yet. As a matter of fact, he’s even called his personal physician and moved his appointment up to Monday afternoon. Something has to give. The Vicodin is helping to take the edge off but, when it gets to its worst point, even that isn’t enough.

We have learned that his cholesterol medication is not a statin but the side effects of it can still be just as devastating. I almost think the cholesterol is the lesser of the two evils. By the way, his medication is/was Tricor. He did stop it. In our research, we have learned that it can sometimes take up to two years before the side effects manifest themselves and such was the case with Pops. Can you say “scary stuff”?

Remember, he also has the two tests the surgeon ordered scheduled for Monday as well. I’ll keep you posted on all of it. By the way, his PSA results were 1.8, which is very good, so no worries there.

Please keep him in your prayers don’t only for his his physical health but for his emotional health as well. Pops is used to going and doing all the time and now he spends the majority of his time lying down just to try to ease the pain. That would take a toll on anybody who is used to be as physically as he is.

More later… :D

Okay…And?

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Well, Pops saw the surgeon and I don’t get it. The surgeon still believes the gall bladder needs to come out but he wants to run a couple of more tests first. Um, why? They will be run next Monday and he will see the surgeon again on the following Friday.

As for his legs, the surgeon says Pops may be right in his theory about the statins but he doesn’t know since, of course, this is not his area of expertise. Oh, and guess what? Apparently, there is no femoral hernia. I know, I know…I’m stumped too.

Now, I know I only got my MD from the Discovery Health Channel, but methinks there is still something very wrong with Pops’ legs and I am not so sure it has anything to do with statins. You see, when Cousin Barbara and I came off statins, the pain in our legs cleared up almost immediately. Such has not been the case with Pops. Good Lord, he had to put on his socks in stages this morning…that is not a good thing! He thinks his leg pain is taking longer to clear up because he has been on the statins much longer than we were. I don’t know…maybe there is some merit to that thinking. I just don’t want him to hurt anymore. His pain is pretty much constant and enough is enough already.

He is scheduled to see his personal physician but not until the end of the month and he doesn’t want to go any sooner and deal with the legs issue because he wants to get the gall bladder taken care of first. Can we say “stubborn”?

So, that’s where we are as of today. Are you scratching your head? I know I am.

Pops Report

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Pops claims he might have felt a bit better today. Mama is not so sure he felt as much better as he claimed. I think he actually felt better because of the “heart massage” he got today. Allow me to explain…

All three grandsons swooped in and took care of the yard work today. Yep, Pops likes his yard to look nice. He climbed up on his lawn mower last week, after just being out of the hospital a few days, and cut the grass. Needless to say, happiness was not the prevailing sentiment.

Not this time. The Boys to the rescue! They did let him play “Overseer” but that was about the extent of it. He was fine with that role as well given the pain he has been in with his legs. The Boys did a great job and Pops was so pleased with them and his yard. I’m so proud of you guys for taking care of your Grandpa!

Pops sees the surgeon at 11:00 tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. I’ll update you all as soon as I know anything. Let’s pray him well!!

Ta Daaaa (Pretend you hear trumpets blowing)

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

I have just updated all of the Family Reports and added a pile more. You now have 73 to choose from…how’s that for variety?

Please do keep in mind that Bone Collecting is always, always, always a work in progress so don’t expect to see a completed report anywhere. :)

I’m sure you realize, Say-rah, that there is no way your your pure mountain range of info made it into the reports yet either…you do realize that, don’t you? Sure you do. I hope.

Anywho, if any of you still don’t see a report you need, just drop me a line and I’ll try to get what you need out to you. As we say here in “The Creek”…”Ain’t nothing but a thang.”

See ya’

The 10 Commandments – Tennessee Style

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

My Aunt Frances sent this my way. Of course, I tend to call her “Uncle Frank”…makes her giggle. :D

Tennessee Ten Commandments

Some people in Tennessee have trouble with all those “shalls” and “shall nots” in the Ten Commandments. Folks just aren’t used to talking in those terms. So, some folks in middle Tennessee got together and translated the “King James” into “Jackson County” language…no joke, read on…

The Hillbilly’s Ten Commandments (posted on the wall at Cross Trails Church in Gainesboro, TN.)

(1) Just one God
(2) Honor yer Ma & Pa
(3) No tellin’ tales or gossipin’
(4) Git yourself to Sunday meetin’
(5) Put nothin’ before God
(6) No foolin’ around with another fellow’s gal
(7) No killin’
(8) Watch yer mouth
(9) Don’t take what ain’t yers
(10) Don’t be hankerin’ for yer buddy’s stuff

Now that’s kinda plain an’ simple, don’t ya think? Y’all have a nice day.

{Confidential to Say-rah – Maybe Stephanie can teach this version to the folks over yonder!}
