Need Prayers

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Just after 4:00 this afternoon, massive tornadoes touched down in Suffolk, VA…a mere 15 to 20 miles from my home. The aftermath was devastating. At least one person has been confirmed dead {UPDATE: We have now been told that no one was killed…HALLELUJAH!!} and more than 200 injured. These are some preliminary photos…we have never seen the likes of this in this area before…

Thank God we are safe and it could have been so very much worse, to be sure. Please remember all of these folks in your thoughts and prayers. They are going to need it for a long time to come.

Parents of the Year

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

John and Laurie Sittley of Chesterfield, South Carolina

So says The Bone. Why? Because they had the guts to turn their kid in for buying bomb making material and planning to blow up his school and everyone in it…including himself…no great loss there. The kid’s name? Doesn’t matter. He wanted to be famous for it. The Bone isn’t gonna help him.

John and Laurie Sittley however deserve accolades upon accolades, a ticker tape parade, a gajillion million dollar award, at the very least. I mean it. If they hadn’t discovered the plot and turned him in…if he had gone through with his despicable plan, everyone everywhere would be asking the same question…

“Where were his parents?”

So let me ask this question now. Where are all those people now? Huh? Why aren’t they fawning all over the Sittleys right this minute, telling them how awesome they are and what a wonderful and amazing thing they did? I mean if things had gone the other way you can bet they would be all over them wanting to know why they didn’t know their kid was so messed up. Look at the aftermath of Columbine and Virginia Tech.

Hey Sittleys…The Bone noticed. You guys are so courageous and I, for one, bow to your greatness. What you did had to be about the hardest thing you have ever had to do but your decision very probably saved a great many lives…including your son’s. I applaud you.

May God bless you both and bring you peace.

Who Could Ask for Anything More?

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Absolutely deserving of the perfect score they received! I loved it and I smiled so much all the way through it that my cheeks still hurt today. Great job. These two are my pick to go all the way. Fingers crossed.

Sadly, I think Marlee will be heading home tonight. She gave it a good run and did an incredible job of proving to the world that, once again, a disability doesn’t have to keep you from doing the things you want to do. What a truly graceful and magnificent individual. I am in awe.

By the way, are you so glad Priscilla Press-On is gone? Good lord, was it just me or did it gross you out a bit too watching her trying to be all sexy with a guy young enough to be her grandson? Yuck, yuck, phhfft, phhfftt. Go ahead and admit it…You know when she did the splits, it freaked your happy hips out. Just like me you thought her legs were gonna get stuck like that and when Louie picked her back up they would still be sticking straight out in the air. You know you did!. Well, I can admit it. I absolutely did. :D

p.s.

Note to Mario: Dude, do you really want to singlehandedly be the reason Dancing with the Stars gets an “R” rating and kicked off network television? You might have even come close to a soft porn rating there last night a time or two. Howzabout toning it down about 27 notches huh? Come on now, you even told your little tiny brother to watch…that’s just not cool at all. Thumbs down to you. I have no choice but to give you the chicken…

For a Good “Paws”

Monday, April 21st, 2008

The Peninsula SPCA out towards my neck of the Earth suffered some hard times at the hands of some uncaring folks and they are trying their best to recoup. One of the ways they are doing that is by a fundraising effort dubbed Paws for a Cause.

My friend’s Mom is participating with her little yorkie, Andy. Check out her page and, if your heart is so moved, how about dropping a little change their way to help the little critters continue to be able to find good homes. I led the way with a donation in honor of my three rescued girls so jump on in and let’s help get them back on track!

Jesus Loves Me

Monday, April 14th, 2008

“Jesus loves me,
This I know…”

Really? How do you know? Because “the Bible tells me so”? Hmm, I don’t think so. You see, that’s not good enough. Just because I happen to read something in a book doesn’t mean I really know it to be true. Does it? So, how do I know Jesus loves me?

I was thinking about this yesterday and the answer was really pretty clear. I know Jesus loves me because he tells me so…every day…over and over again. Allow me to explain. Got a pen? You might want to take notes. This is gonna be good.

I woke up yesterday morning feeling pretty refreshed and well rested. Jesus loves me. Nestled beside me, sleeping peacefully was my sweet little Libs. She must have felt me stirring because she opened her little eyes, looked at me and immediately went to wagging her tail. Jesus loves me.

The pups and I herded out of the bedroom and into the living room, heading for the backdoor. Of course we had to stumble our way over the various and sundry toys strewn all over the floor from our little romping playtime from the night before. Have you ever played on the floor with some pups and their toys? We had a ball. Jesus loves me.

I walked out onto the back porch as the girls hustled through their doggy door and into the backyard. The trees had leafed out and were a beautiful shade of new springtime green. Even though there was a little bit of an early morning nip in the air, the sun was shining and birds were singing. I watched ducks swimming on the little lake while my girls chased each other around the yard. All of a sudden, I felt like I was being wrapped up in a big, welcoming good morning hug. It was so awesome and comforting all at the same time. How amazing to think that the Creator of all things took the time to welcome me to the day.

Oh yes, Jesus loves me. This, I know. Do you?

Twinklers

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Last night was a pretty good show…for the most part. I do have a couple of questions. First, how is it possible to pull off a bull fight on a unicycle?? I love the Paso Doble but the circus act bit? Not so much.

Second, was Len feeling so bad about slamming Jason last week that he just had to give him a perfect score this week no matter what? The man stumbled. He was not perfect. Stumbled. Not perfect. How does he possibly get 10′s?

My pick to leave this week is Adam Corrosive. Admittedly, he has gotten better but he is still miles and MILES behind everyone else. See ya Adam.

My absolute favorite last night was Derek and Shannon’s Viennese Waltz. It was gorgeous. How about an encore…

Thought I Would Share….

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

When the Chief retired last week, I took Pops with me to his retirement dinner. Our Department Photographer, Ken, who happens to be my photographic mentor as well, took this pic of me and my Pops that night.

My Pops is so proud of me and he is all about Smurf Village. Every time we come out with a new ball cap, jacket, t-shirt, or whatever, he’s got to have it. I’ve been telling him he’s going to go through withdrawals when I retire. :D Now, I’ve been kicked to the curb because he says he golfs with the new Chief so he’s all set! Ohhh the pain.
