Phil Whittington Update

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

Aunt Marva Lee just called me with an update on Phil to pass along. The type of Leukemia he has is Lymphocytic Leukemia. He will have blood tests tomorrow (Monday) to determine the stage of the disease and what avenues of treatment should be pursued. He hopes to have the results by Wednesday.

Phil is in hopeful spirits and has a good attitude going into this. Remember, the Leukemia was found during a physical and not because of any symptoms. The doctor has told him many people discover they have the disease the same way and not because they are feeling bad. We can certainly be thankful that he is not feeling bad.

I will post more updates as I get them. Do also keep Aunt Marva Lee and Uncle Phillip in your prayers as this has rattled them pretty well.

My cousin, Phil Whittington, son of Phillip & Marva Lee Parrish Whittington, was diagnosed yesterday with Leukemia. We have none of the details at this point but we are requesting everyone’s prayers. I’ll keep you all updated.

Terry is Going Home

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Terry is set to be released from the hospital today and he is most relieved as I’m sure you can all imagine. He has had quite a bit of pain from this surgery but I guess that is to be expected when your chest gets split open…ewww…ewww…ouch!

I want to thank all of you who sent prayers and good wishes for my family during this trying time. It meant more to us than you can know.

More on Terry

Terry came through surgery beautifully with no complications. He should be moved to his own room this evening. Thank you all so much for your prayers and well wishes.

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

Terry’s surgery started later than scheduled. At this point in time (10:00 pm), he is still in surgery. I am going on to bed. Mom will call only if something is wrong…otherwise, I’ll get an update in the morning. Keep praying.

Terry Mason

Terry will have quadruple bypass heart surgery at 1:30 tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon. The surgery is expected to last about 5 to 6 hours. They will not need to do anything with the mitral valve. I will update here as soon as I know anything. Please continue to pray.

More Mason Family Update

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Aunt Sue came home from the hospital yesterday. They said there was nothing more they could do for her medically. She is very weak but glad to be home. She now has to make the decision of whether or not to quit chemo. She will see the doctor later this week to discuss that option.

Terry is feeling better this morning than he was yesterday. He is scheduled for another echocardiogram today to determine if he needs a quadruple rather than triple bypass and whether or not he needs work done on his mitral valve. At this time surgery is scheduled for tomorrow (the hospital was over-booked for surgery today).

Mama and Pops are on the way home.

More later.

Mason Family Update

Friday, January 12th, 2007
My Cousin Terry is currently in recovery at Wake Med. His wife, Tracy, just got off the phone with Mama. Terry is scheduled for triple bypass surgery Monday morning. He has one artery completely blocked and two more almost completely blocked. The doctor was surprised that Terry has not already had a fatal heart attack but said he should feel twenty years younger after the surgery.

Aunt Sue has had a good day today and seems mentally alert. They still have no idea why she went off the deep end last night but are monitoring her closely.

Mama and Pops are heading for Carolina in the morning. By the way…Happy Birthday Mama!!

Mason Family

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Aunt Sue has taken a turn for the worse tonight and has once again lost her mental lucidity. She is hallucinating and believes she is somewhere other than where she is and that she has to go home. The family has been by her side however there are now new worries.

Aunt Sue’s oldest son, Terry, has been admitted to the same hospital and is in congestive heart failure. Doctors removed 17 pounds (yes, that is 17) of fluid from around his heart today. He is scheduled to be moved tomorrow to Wake Med and will undergo Angioplasty. The doctors wanted him at Wake Med in case anything else needs to be done since Raleigh Community is not equipped to handle his situation.

Mama talked to Terry by telephone this evening. He says he is okay but obviously his mother is topmost in his thoughts right now. Mama and Pops are heading home Saturday morning. Knowing my Mama, she will not rest easy until she has laid eyes on both Aunt Sue and Terry.

Please continue to pray for this family…my family.

Aunt Sue Update

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

My Uncle Curtis (Mama’s brother) went to Raleigh last night to see Aunt Sue and was pleasantly surprised. Her mental faculties seem to have improved quite a bit. She is still very ill and has a long way to go but at least she is showing some improvement. Thank you for making that trip Uncle Curtis.

Continue your prayers please.
